This circa 1880 photo features a Camp Meeting cottage at 36 Morris Avenue in Mount Tabor. It was built in 1878 for Mr. Francis A. Day when Mount Tabor was in its heyday as a Methodist Camp Meeting ground. This house was joined with the one shown to the left around the turn of the last century, and the current house still retains the charming Victorian architectural details and gingerbread that are part of Mount Tabor's rich cultural heritage. Take special note of the trees, as they can still be seen growing through the porch today! Careful attention to the circumscribing of the porch roof to allow for growth of the trunks has brought to the present day a whimsical joining of man-made structure and nature. You can see this magnificent "tree house" for yourself, and get a look inside, as it will be shown with over 15 other houses and public buildings on the 18th annual Mount Tabor House Tour on Saturday, September 24, 2011.
